The Shenandoah Valley Writing Project will be celebrating its 10th year as a network serving all teachers in the upper Shenandoah Valley. Please join us and bring along your colleagues. The SVWP celebrates and supports teachers teaching teachers. All breakout sessions are led by SVWP Teacher Consultants, sharing practices that have led to success for their students. These demonstration lessons can be applied to your classroom immediately.

Braid Workshop

This workshop provides an overview of the Braid Project, platform, and features, including “book mode,” which allows educators to organize and combine stories by person, class, theme, or question. It will also provide an opportunity for educators to pilot Braid and explore how digital storytelling might be utilized as a tool for student learning in their classrooms.
While not required, participants are encouraged to bring their laptops to fully participate in the workshop.

First, we will discuss motivating and engaging students in planning and creating their writing. Then, we will discuss using your five senses to write a descriptive paragraph (candy will be involved!). Finally, we will discuss using children’s literature to inspire students’ writing.
